Feb. 11, 2025: In an escalation of ongoing tensions due to negligence in the healthcare system in Thanga AC, villagers have locked the gates of the Primary Health Centre (PHC) today, citing chronic understaffing issues despite repeated appeals.
The Thanga Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, leading the protest, declared an indefinite shutdown of the sole government healthcare unit serving the area.
The PHC, which is the only government healthcare facility in Thanga AC, is crucial for providing essential medical services to the community, according to the protesters.
With six doctors originally assigned, three are on extended leave for postgraduate courses, while one is tasked with managing ten relief camps across the constituency.
This leaves only two doctors to handle the entire workload, leading to significant service disruptions and mounting inconvenience for local residents.
Repeated pleas to address the staffing crisis have reportedly gone unanswered by authorities, prompting the decisive action by villagers today.
