There is No Misleading by MLA Ranjit: KKDC

Regarding the construction of the 27.4 km long Indo-Burma Sugnu Road, which runs from Wabagai Lamkhai to Sugnu, there has been no misleading of people by local MLA K. Ranjit, as reported in the media, clarified Rishikesh.

Secretary of Kakching Khunou Development Committee, Rishikesh clarified that Sugnu MLA K. Ranjit has shown concern for the suffering of the people, and he has made many efforts to alleviate their hardship. He added that the MLA is working and expressing his duty as a representative for the welfare of the people.

When expressing the issue, he said that the road was last blacktopped in 2011–2012 from Wabagai Lamkhai up to Chakpikarong. However, since then the condition of the road has deteriorated badly. Normally, as per state norms, such road projects are reconstructed or improved within five years of completion. Potholes or damages in between are also repaired through maintenance funds. But since the BJP-led government came to power in 2017, no improvement work has been taken up on this road.

He further pointed out that MLA K. Ranjit had, from time to time, spoken during Assembly sessions about the urgent need to repair this road. Assembly records also stand as proof of his submissions. Being an opposition MLA, instead of prioritizing only his own constituency, he often drew the attention of the government to neighboring constituencies such as Hiyanglam and Waikhong, demanding road development works there. Ultimately, no progress has been made anywhere.

With the fall of the BJP government and the imposition of President’s Rule in the state, MLA K. Ranjit submitted a letter to the Governor’s Council on June 13, 2025, regarding the construction of the road. Following this, the Chief Secretary was again asked on July 3 about the matter. Later, it was confirmed that the road would be taken up under the Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) – Part 1. The total project estimate is ₹45 crore, of which ₹22 crore has been sanctioned for the financial year 2025–2026 as the first installment.

Rishikesh also strongly condemned BJP Sugnu Mandal for making false charges.
