April 9, 2026 : In an outpouring of grief and anger, children and locals took to the streets at Malom Awang along Tiddim Road, staging a protest rally against the brutal Tronglaobi terror attack that killed two sleeping kids, while also condemning the subsequent firing incident that claimed civilian lives.
Holding placards with messages demanding justice, many of them children themselves, the protesters highlighted the tragic killing of the two minors who were asleep when the projectile struck their home at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai in Bishnupur district.
The presence of young demonstrators added a poignant dimension to the rally, symbolizing collective fear and outrage over the growing insecurity faced by children in the region.
The rally was organised in support of the ongoing mass indefinite hunger strike launched by the People Alliance for Peace and Progressive Manipur (PAPPM) at Malom Awang. Protesters expressed solidarity with the agitation, asserting that justice must be delivered for the innocent lives lost.
Participants also strongly condemned the reported firing by security forces during subsequent protests, which allegedly led to the deaths of at least three civilians and left several others injured, including minors. The dual tragedy of children killed in the attack and civilians dying in the aftermath was repeatedly highlighted by speakers and demonstrators.
Slogans demanding protection of civilians, especially children, echoed throughout the protest site, with many calling for accountability and immediate action to prevent further such incidents. Women protesters, visibly anguished, questioned how children could become victims of such violence and urged authorities to ensure safety in vulnerable areas.
The protest remained peaceful but emotionally charged, with growing participation from local residents. Demonstrators warned that public agitation would intensify if justice is delayed, as the pain of losing innocent children continues to resonate deeply across the community.
