This Is Not Just an Accident, It’s an Unforgivable Failure: Ibobi Demands Global Probe as Nation Mourns Air India Crash Victim

CLP leader and former Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh has issued a call for an international investigation into the tragic Air India plane crash that claimed 242 lives, including 21-year-old cabin crew member Nganthoi Kongbrailatpam Sharma of Thoubal Awang Leikai.

Describing the incident as a “catastrophic failure that cannot be brushed aside,” Ibobi said the crash raised disturbing questions about global aviation safety.

Standing beside a grieving family in Thoubal, the senior Congress leader called the disaster “not just an accident, but an unforgivable collapse of safety protocols.”

He demanded that the Government of India invite international aviation experts to lead a transparent inquiry into how a state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner could suffer a dual engine failure just minutes after takeoff.

Ibobi also urged the Centre to immediately announce compensation and long-term support for the families of victims, especially young professionals like Nganthoi who died in service.

“Ex-gratia must not become an afterthought. These families need support, now,” he stressed.
