Thoubal District Also Observed the 129th Birth Anniversary of Lamyanba Irawat

The 129th birth anniversary of the great leader Lamyanba Irawat was observed at various places in Thoubal district on Tuesday.

The Irawat Day Observation Committee, Wangjing–Tentha AC, organized the program “129th Birth Anniversary of the People’s Leader Lamyanba Hijam Irawat” with solemnity at Khorirol Sanglen, Wangjing.

The program was attended by retired ARCS Kh. Maniton, retired Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School Thoubal teacher Shaikhom Chaoba, Advisors of Wangjing Tentha Kendra Development Committee S. Kesho and L. Brajeshor, Chairman of Irawat Day Observation Committee Wangjing Tentha AC Th. Ibocha, social activist from Wangjing Haobam Robindro (Roben), social activist from Tentha Th. Hemobi, and senior citizen from Phundrei Md. Abdul Samad, along with other eminent personalities from Wangjing Tentha AC, who sat together as presidium members.

As part of the program, women from various localities of the AC brought offerings of fruit and took part in the event. Floral tributes were paid by the people with respect and honour, led by dignitaries, at the memorial site of Lamyanba Irawat at Wangjing-Heirok Lamkhai, where a half-size statue of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat stands.

Later, as part of the day’s event, a public meeting on the theme “Irawat and His Life Story” was also held.

Speaking on why the event was observed, Secretary of the Irawat Day Observation Committee Th. Brajakishore stated that Lamyanba Irawat is a guiding torch for the people. He said the Committee has been organizing the event regularly for the last 15 years to keep alive the contributions and sacrifices of Irawat, and will continue to do so in the coming years.

He added that, given the prevailing unrest in Manipur today, the ideology and struggles of Irawat are highly relevant. He further stressed that only by remembering and following the path shown by Irawat can Manipur stand united against challenges, just as Irawat himself once protected the integrity of the land.

Meanwhile, Wisdom Foundation Khangabok also observed the 129th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Hijam Irawat at the school premises by organizing an Inter-House Debating Competition among the students.

The event began with floral tributes at Irawat’s portrait, after which students presented speeches on the struggles and contributions of Lamyanba Irawat.

In the main session, Social Science Department senior teacher Th. Joykumar narrated in detail the life and work of Irawat to the students.

The Inter-House Debating Competition was held in two categories: Junior and Senior.

  • In the Junior category (Classes III to VII), students debated on the topic “Technology makes students lazy.”
  • In the Senior category (Classes VIII to X), students debated on the topic “Private schools provide better education than Government schools.”

In another event, the 129th birth anniversary of Lamyanba Irawat was observed by Salaai Kanba Lup (CC) at Salaai Eco Tourism Park, Ukhongshang Unit. The program was led by Lup Chairman Salaaichaa Leichombam Gopal and Ukhongshang Unit President Salaaichaa Senyai, who jointly paid floral tributes at Irawat’s memorial. Members from other SKL units also attended in large numbers.

Speaking at the occasion, Chairman Salaaichaa Gopal said that in the current turbulent situation of Manipur, it is necessary to recall and follow the ideology and struggles of Lamyanba Irawat, who sacrificed his life for the welfare of the people.
