Thoubal District Congress Conducts Signature Drive Against Corruption

Following the All India Congress Committee’s directive, the Thoubal District Congress Committee organized the “Vote CHOR GADDI CHHOD” signature campaign on Wednesday at the District Congress Bhawan, Thoubal Athokpam. The nationwide campaign, running from September 15 to October 15, urges citizens to reject corrupt practices and uphold the people’s mandate.

CLP Leader and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, along with former ministers M. Okendro and M. Hemanta, former MLA O. Landhoni, and key district leaders, attended the event. Members and supporters from all six Assembly Constituencies — Thoubal, Khangabok, Wangjing-Tentha, Heirok, and Wangkhem — signed petitions, which were submitted to party leaders.

Addressing the gathering, Ibobi Singh accused the BJP of undermining democratic institutions, including the Election Commission of India, and interfering in elections in states such as Maharashtra and Karnataka. He said actions like delaying or preventing local body elections indicate fear of the people’s mandate. He emphasized that the Congress Party launched the campaign to safeguard constitutional values and expressed confidence that the people will restore true democracy in the country.
