Imphal, January 21: When it comes to the cumulative number of road accidents, Manipur’s statistics have shown relatively high incidences. Thoubal district alone recorded 1,060 cases in 2024. This was revealed by Thoubal Deputy Commissioner Ahanthem Subhash during a district-level road safety quiz organised to combat the rising accident rates.
The event, organised as part of National Road Safety Week, aimed to enhance road safety awareness among students and the community. Four schools from the district participated in the initiative, which sought to address concerns about accidents involving minors and inexperienced drivers.
DC Subhash urged parents to monitor young drivers closely and ensure compliance with traffic regulations. He highlighted the enforcement of measures such as the E-Challan system, which imposes fines of up to Rs. 5,000 for violations, including driving without a valid license.
The District-Level Quiz Competition was held at the Auditorium Hall of Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School, Thoubal. It was organised by the District Administration of Thoubal, in collaboration with the Zonal Education Office and the District Transport Office.
Dignitaries present included Deputy Commissioner Ahanthem Subhash, ZEO Thoubal Arambam Anilkumar, District Transport Officer Hemochandra Irengbam, and Principal M. Muhindro of Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School.
The quiz competition witnessed enthusiastic participation. New Era Higher Secondary School clinched the top spot, followed by Peace and Freedom Academy in second place, Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School in third, and KM Blooming Higher Secondary School in fourth.
The event concluded with the announcement that the prize distribution ceremony will take place during the grand Republic Day celebration.
