April 26, 2025: The Churachandpur Police arrested 3 persons, including two police constables, who allegedly opened fire with 3 rounds in the air from a running car coming in from Churachandpur College side towards near G/129 CRPF campus near Old DC Guest House.
The incident happened around 3 am on Wednesday. The vehicle involved in the incident was identified and intercepted around yesterday noon, and an occupant identified as Mangkholun Haokip was arrested. One 9mm pistol used in the crime was also recovered.
Meanwhile, two police constables identified as Paominthang Haokip and Thonglenkhai were also suspected in the crime and were arrested.
During the firing, the G/129 Bn. CRPF main gate sentry immediately retaliated and fired one round from his rifle, following which the miscreants fled. A case under FIR NO. 68(4)2025 CCP-PS u/s 351(2)/3(5) BNS and 25(1-C) Arms Act has been registered for investigation.
According to SP Churachandpur, the District Police Churachandpur is tirelessly dedicated to maintaining law and order in the district. Any instance of gunfire spreads panic among the general population, and all such incidents are investigated on priority. The miscreants involved in this firing were apprehended in less than 24 hours by the District Police along with 19 Garhwal Rifles and 58 CRPF. The general public is advised not to believe in any unverified information and to aid the security forces in ensuring peace.
