Seizures of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) in Assam continue, as an EGPD (East Guwahati Police District) team from Basistha Police Station arrested three people and recovered FICN with a face value of Rs 227,000 on Wednesday.
Following intelligence inputs, a search operation was launched in the Lalmati area of Guwahati, leading to the arrest of three individuals from a rented house and the recovery of 457 notes of ₹500. The arrested have been identified as Annas Ali (24) of Barpeta, Sahil Sikdar (22) of Sarthebari, and Islam Ali alias Sahil (27) of Gorchuk.
During the search, the EGPD also seized one money counting machine, five PVC packing films (used for wrapping FICN), nine debit/credit cards, one bank passbook, one Tata Nexon (AS01GA2130), one Hyundai Verna (AS01GL6798), and six mobile phones.
Earlier, in October 2025, police had seized fake notes worth around Rs 1.2 crore in Kaliabor under Chulung Police Station in Assam, which was among the biggest seizures.
