Three differently-abled women basketball stars, along with a coach from the Wheelchair Basketball Association Manipur (WBAM), left Imphal for Bangkok to participate in the Asia Oceania Zone (AOZ) Championship 2025, organised by the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF).
The three wheelchair basketball players from Manipur will join the India Women’s Team for the event, which will be held from November 3 to 16. The players from Manipur are Chakpram Lokeshori Devi, Maimom Gunibala Devi, and Irengbam Ritu Chanu, while the India Women’s Team’s first assistant coach is Md. Yunus Khan.
The three players from Manipur were earlier selected as Best Players in the recently held 9th National Wheelchair Basketball Championship 2025, organised by the Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India (WBFI) in Gwalior, where Team Manipur emerged as runner-up.
The Association appealed to the public and families to support and encourage differently-abled individuals to showcase their talent. It further stated that in Manipur, the progress of differently-abled persons in games and sports remains limited due to a lack of public support, stadiums, and proper courts.
