A sudden afternoon thunderstorm, accompanied by heavy rain, swept across Manipur’s valley districts today, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The storm, which struck around 2 pm, severely impacted several areas, with Imphal East district bearing the brunt of the damage.
At Uyumpok, strong winds completely blew off an Anganwadi Centre, while in Ishika, the roof of a residential house was torn apart, leaving families scrambling for safety.
In Ishika, also under Imphal East, the roof of a private house was blown off by the powerful winds, causing panic among residents and forcing families to seek immediate shelter.
Meanwhile, a lightning strike was reported from Keibi Mayai Leikai, also in Imphal East, sparking panic among local residents.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far, though property damage has been extensive.
Besides Imphal East, other parts of the valley also experienced heavy rain, waterlogging, and minor structural damages.
Fallen trees and snapped power lines were reported in several locations, disrupting electricity supply.
Emergency response teams have been put on alert as residents remain cautious about the possibility of more unstable weather.
