Torch Rally Held in Nungbrang Condemning Tronglaobi Incident; Protesters Demand Removal of Central Forces

Thoubal, April 11: Residents of Nungbrang in Imphal East district staged a torch rally on Friday night to strongly condemn the bombing in Tronglaobi that killed two children and seriously injured their mother.

The torch rally was jointly organised by Nungbrang Apunba Meira Paibi, Nungbrang Thumkhong Lairembi Youth Club, and Nungbrang Ahal Committee. Participants assembled at Tera Urok Ngamukhong Lampak in the Nungbrang area before the march commenced. A large number of Meira Paibis and local youth took part, raising slogans during the procession.

Speaking at the rally, Shadokpam Sunita Leima, Secretary of Nungbrang Apunba Meira Paibi, said that the Central forces currently deployed in Manipur should be withdrawn from the state immediately. The incident that occurred is extremely painful for every citizen. CRPF personnel who opened fire on protesters and killed three civilians, and also injured several protesters, must be punished at the earliest.

Protesters raised slogans including “Kuki narco-terrorists must be eliminated from Manipur,” “We condemn the killing of civilians,” “We condemn the killing of children,” “Go back Central forces,” and “Manipur’s territorial integrity cannot be compromised.”

The rally concluded peacefully.
