The District Administration, Jiribam, in collaboration with the State Institute of Rural Development, organised a one-day training programme on the “Convention on Women Representatives” at the Conference Hall of the DC Office, Chingdong Leikai, on Tuesday. The initiative was aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and enhancing their ability to raise awareness within communities and blocks.
Addressing the programme, Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar underscored the importance of women’s participation in development processes. He said women representatives play a critical role in strengthening communities and encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training to become effective leaders and agents of change.
The Deputy Commissioner outlined key responsibilities for women representatives, including overseeing the implementation of government schemes, ensuring benefits reach intended beneficiaries, and spreading awareness about initiatives such as Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Sukanya Samridhi Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandan Yojana, pension schemes, and programmes under the Social Welfare and Health Departments. He also stressed the need to promote routine immunisation of children and registration of antenatal cases at the District Hospital to enable access to government benefits.
Urging participants to share the information acquired during the training with their villages and blocks, he said the programme was designed to identify and nurture leadership qualities among women. He assured continued support from the District Administration in their efforts.
The programme was attended by 30 nominated women representatives from Borobekra CD Block, including members from RD and PR institutions, line departments, NGOs, CBOs, SHGs, and community women leaders. Senior district officials and resource persons were also present during the training.
