A tree plantation drive and flag hoisting ceremony marked the 12th Raising Day observance of Meitei Huyen Langlon Sintam Shanglen (Satjal-Academy), Universal Friendship Organisation (UFO) Chingphu Branch, held at Chingphu Ching in Bishnupur district on Saturday.
The event began with the hoisting of the organisation’s flag by Ishok Gram Panchayat Pradhan, Wareppam Deben Singh, who also offered floral tributes to Ipudhou Pakhangba. Members of the UFO battalion presented a salute and paid homage during the solemn occasion.
UFO President RK Sana Parihal, Secretary General Y. Meiraba Angom, Chief Instructor of Thang-Ta Nongmaithem Bijoy, Instructor Shyam Meitei, along with battalion secretaries, commanders, and members from various branches, attended the function in large numbers.
With the theme “Save the Environment,” the highlight of the programme was a massive tree plantation drive at Chingphu Ching. Under the leadership of President RK Sana Parihal, over 200 saplings were planted by UFO members, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to environmental conservation.
Speaking on the occasion, leaders of the UFO emphasised the importance of blending traditional martial arts like Thang-Ta with social responsibility, urging youth to preserve both cultural heritage and the natural environment.
