Tremor Felt in Manipur with a Magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter Scale

March 5, 2025: With an estimated magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter Scale, an earthquake hit Manipur at around 11:06 am, and the quake lasted for nearly a minute. Many took to social media to express themselves after the tremor was felt in the state.

The earthquake with the highest magnitude in Manipur during the last nine years was recorded on January 4, 2016, at around 4:35 am, which affected many buildings, including the historic Ima Market in the state capital, Imphal.

According to the Earthquake Vulnerability Atlas of India, the whole of Manipur is at very high risk for earthquakes, i.e., seismic zone V. As such, Manipur State has a long history of earthquakes, albeit of low magnitude.
