US President Donald J. Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have struck an optimistic note on reviving stalled trade negotiations, using social media to reaffirm their commitment to resolving long-standing tariff and market access disputes.
Trump said the two nations are “continuing negotiations to address the trade barriers” and expressed confidence that talks would reach a “successful conclusion” for both sides. He also noted he would soon speak with his “very good friend” Modi.
Prime Minister Modi quickly responded, calling the United States a “close friend and natural partner.” Modi stressed that trade discussions were moving forward at pace and voiced confidence that they would “unlock the limitless potential” of the India-US partnership.
The upbeat exchange comes after long friction, including US tariff hikes on Indian exports, New Delhi’s retaliatory measures, and disagreements over digital commerce and agricultural market access.
