The Thadou Students’ Association (TSA) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI 171 from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick on June 12, 2025, which claimed the lives of many, including two young cabin crew members from Manipur—Miss Lamnunthem Singson of the Thadou community and Miss Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma of the Meitei community.
Miss Lamnunthem Singson, daughter of (Late) Lenminlun Singson, hailed from Old Lambulane, Imphal, and was currently residing at Kangpokpi DHQ as an internally displaced person (IDP). She had recently joined Air India as a cabin crew member in 2024, and her untimely death is a great loss to her family and the Thadou community.
TSA extends heartfelt condolences to both bereaved families and assures all necessary assistance to the families of Miss Lamnunthem Singson and Miss Kongbrailatpam Nganthoi Sharma during this difficult time.
The plane was headed for Gatwick Airport, south of the British capital, Air India said, while police officers stated it crashed in a residential area near the airport.
The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 13:38 hrs, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, 1 Canadian national, and 7 Portuguese nationals.
