FEB 5, 2026 (IMP): The Tuibong areas of Manipur’s Churachandpur district have once again metamorphosed into a riot district within 24 hours after the formation of the Government, expressing strong resentment over their three MLAs joining the formation.
If the situation escalates, the district authority is likely to impose curfew to maintain law and order.
The Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) earlier imposed a 24-hour shutdown starting from midnight of February 6 against its MLAs taking part in the Government formation and also referred to the move as a “betrayal of the community’s demand for a Separate Administration.”
During the protests, fires were burned on the roads and stones were pelted at the security forces. Security forces have also been reinforced to intervene and prevent further escalation, according to visuals received here.
Meanwhile, some unconfirmed reports also say that a heavy exchange of fire occurred in Kangpokpi district of Manipur this morning between two armed groups at Mark Top Hill. The unconfirmed reports say the fight was between the UKNA (United Kuki National Army) and the KNF (Kuki National Front–MC). However, official reports are yet to be received.
