Two Children Killed, Mother Injured in Mortar Bomb Attack in Meitei Village

APRIL 7, 2026 (IMP): In a fresh bomb attack by suspected Kuki militants at a Meitei village in Tronglaobi of Manipur’s Bishnupur district, a 6-month-old infant (girl) and her 5-year-old brother were killed, while their mother was injured.

The attack, suspected to have been carried out using mortar shells, took place at around 1 AM on Tuesday when the three were sleeping. The shell hit their bedroom, piercing the walls.

The village is located in the southern part of Moirang in Bishnupur district, roughly 45–50 km from the state capital, and has recently become a site of violent clashes in the Manipur ethnic conflict.

“This heinous act is nothing less than an act of terrorism. Such inhuman acts have no place in our society and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms,” stated the MLA of Moirang AC, Th. Shanti, who rushed to the site. The MLA also strongly condemned the “brutal attack” at Tronglaobi Awang Leikai, allegedly carried out by “Kuki narco-terrorists.”

Meanwhile, irate locals of Moirang gathered at the front gate of Moirang Police Station, condemning the attack and demanding swift action.
