FEB 27, 2026 (IMP): Two drug smugglers from Madhya Pradesh, who were trying to smuggle out a huge consignment of heroin powder from Manipur, were arrested at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport on Friday.
The two non-Manipuris, found in possession of 4.800 kg of heroin powder, were intercepted by a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) team posted at Imphal airport while attempting to board a Guwahati-bound flight (Air India Express IX1038) from Imphal. The duo has been handed over to the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB), Imphal.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Suresh Prajapat, son of Kanhiyalal Prajapat, and Vijay Singh, son of Rajendra Singh, both residents of Madhya Pradesh. The duo was seen being taken out of the airport by a police team for further investigation during dusk.
It is yet to be ascertained from where they procured such a huge consignment of contraband and who the kingpin behind the trade is.
