Assam Police apprehended two individuals belonging to the Kuki-Zo community from Churachandpur district after intercepting a vehicle carrying heroin worth an estimated Rs. 8 crore.
The seizure took place at Amingaon in Kamrup on September 1, exposing yet another link in the inter-state narcotics trail from Manipur to Assam.
According to police, a red Hyundai i10 (Regn No. MN 01-AW-2641) was stopped and thoroughly checked, leading to the recovery of 74 soap boxes containing heroin weighing around 910 grams (excluding packaging). The contraband was concealed inside the door panels and rear compartment of the car.
The arrested persons have been identified as Gogou Suantak (33), son of Thangneinak Suantak of Sheiphei village, PS Sangaikot, and Seilun Vaiphei (39), son of Thangkho Vaiphei of Makhao village, PS Sangaikot. Both hail from Churachandpur district, Manipur.
The duo has been booked under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
