At least two bombs, believed to be from World War II, were found on Thursday, April 2, at around 8:30 am at Luwangsangbam Awang Leikai under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East district. According to police sources, a police Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team, accompanied by Heingang Police Station personnel, safely retrieved the bombs at around 11 am.
It may be mentioned that there was a recent incident of bomb recovery in the area. The Luwangsangbam area is said to have been a hangar and storage site for the Allied Forces during World War II. The village is located just opposite the old Koirengei Airfield.
