UMPC charts path for peace and unity with Security Advisor

Imphal : Jan 17 In an effort toward fostering harmony and unity, the United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC), Manipur, held a high-level meeting on Friday with Manipur’s Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, at the Chief Minister’s Secretariate in Imphal.
The discussion revolved around critical issues, including communal harmony, combating misinformation, and promoting peaceful coexistence among the state’s diverse communities.

The meeting began with a resolute focus on strengthening communal harmony. The UMPC stressed the importance of nurturing mutual respect and understanding between communities by encouraging dialogue, cultural exchanges, and collaborative initiatives.

A major point of discussion was the growing threat of misinformation and hate speech on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.

The UMPC expressed concerns about the divisive narratives circulating online and recommended concrete measures to counteract them.

They proposed establishing a robust monitoring framework to identify and address harmful content, working closely with social media platforms to remove misinformation promptly, and launching public awareness campaigns to educate citizens on the risks and consequences of spreading false information.

Highlighting the urgent need to promote peaceful coexistence among Manipur’s communities, the UMPC recommended organising inter-community events, encouraging grassroots participation in peacebuilding activities, and implementing educational programs that celebrate the state’s rich cultural diversity.

The committee also urged Kuldiep Singh and the state government to prioritise these pressing issues and take immediate action to address them, expressing its commitment to collaborating on future initiatives to ensure sustainable peace and development in the state.
