The United Meitei-Pangal Committee (UMPC), Manipur has urged Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to step in immediately against what it described as “habitual hate-filled posts” made by social media user Pramot Singh, warning that such unchecked propaganda could spark communal tensions in the state.
In its memorandum, UMPC alleged that Pramot had persistently used Facebook to share content laced with provocative language and communal undertones.
The committee, however, did not cite any specific post or recent incident, but insisted that Pramot’s “pattern of habitual online hate speech” over the years was enough to create distrust and fear among the Meitei-Pangal (Muslim) community.
UMPC also raised concerns over the role of the organization Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL), accusing it of running a long-standing digital campaign aimed at stereotyping and marginalizing minorities under the guise of cultural or political activism. The committee warned that such narratives posed a direct threat to peace and coexistence.
While noting that no decisive legal or administrative action had been taken so far, UMPC called for urgent investigation by cybercrime authorities, filing of FIRs under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) 2023, and the IT Act, removal of objectionable content from digital platforms, and preventive security measures in sensitive areas.
