The United Naga Council (UNC), in its Emergency Presidential Council (EPC) meeting held in Tahamzam today, resolved to lift the trade embargo pro tempore from 6 pm today (Thursday) after the Government assured talks regarding its demands for scrapping the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and Border Fencing along the Indo-Myanmar border.
The UNC, the apex Naga body in Manipur, had imposed the trade embargo from midnight on 8th September, which affected the movement of goods carriers along NH-2 in the Naga-dominated areas of Manipur.
The UNC statement said the EPC appreciated the Government’s acknowledgement of the past engagements of the UNC and the MHA and also their confirmation of receipt of memoranda/representations on the above issues. The Government’s assurance that there will be prior consultation with the UNC and other stakeholders before the stated works are taken up was well received.
