UNC to Intensify Economic Blockade Across Manipur Highways From Tomorrow

September 8, 2026 : The United Naga Council (UNC) has announced an indefinite intensification of its ongoing inter-district economic blockade across National Highways in Manipur from 1 a.m. on September 9, demanding justice and accountability for the killing of six Nagas on May 13.

The decision was taken pursuant to a resolution adopted at an Emergency Presidential Council Meeting held at Ukhrul on September 2, the UNC said in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Under the intensified blockade, the movement of all goods-laden vehicles will be restricted on NH-2, NH-202 (Jessami), NH-37 (Jiribam), and NH-102A (Tadubi-Ukhrul).

However, vehicles carrying essential emergency services, including medical supplies, media personnel, power, telecommunications, and water supply, will be exempted from the blockade, the UNC said.

The UNC stated that the economic blockade was a collective expression of grievances and a call for justice and accountability over the six Nagas who were allegedly brutally killed, mutilated, and dismembered on May 13, 2026.

The Naga body appealed to the general public to extend cooperation to the movement until justice is delivered.
