Imphal, November 13, 2025 : Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta, accompanied by Nikhil Saraswart, IRS, and Manmohan Singh Deol, Executive Director, NHIDCL, visited Kangpokpi today to review the progress of ongoing Central and State development schemes.
During his visit to Presidency College, Motbung, the Minister was accorded a warm welcome by Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, in the presence of SDOs, district-level officers, the Principal, teachers, students, and beneficiaries of various government programmes. The event also showcased Manipur’s rich cultural diversity, featuring traditional dance performances by Thadou/Kuki and Nepali troupes.
Addressing the gathering, Tamta commended the efforts of the district administration and NHIDCL officials in improving the highway connecting Kangpokpi to Kohima, describing it as a vital corridor and the shortest route from Guwahati. He informed that efforts are underway to resolve blockages near Kohima to ensure smoother traffic flow and faster transportation of goods.
The Minister noted that multiple work packages are in progress and assured that land acquisition issues would be addressed soon. Reaffirming the Government’s commitment to strengthening road infrastructure and regional connectivity, Tamta said such projects would significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of Manipur and the Northeast.
Praising the natural beauty and cultural richness of Manipur, the Minister described the state as “one of the most scenic places in the world” and urged citizens to work together for a prosperous and peaceful future.
As part of the programme, Tamta distributed various beneficiary items including Ayushman Bharat cards, stationery under Janjatiya Gaurav, sports materials under Mission Vatsalya, a motorized winding machine and sewing machines under the National Handloom Development Programme, and sewing machines under PM Vishwakarma Shram Samman Yojana (Machine Shakti).
Students and beneficiaries also had the opportunity to interact with the Minister, and the event concluded with the gathering singing “Vande Mataram” to commemorate its 150th anniversary.
