Noney, Feb 27: Union Minister of State for Steel and Heavy Industries Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma on Friday visited Noney district to review ongoing infrastructure projects and assess the implementation of central government welfare schemes.
Arriving by helicopter at Longmai Common Ground around 10 am, the minister was received by Deputy Commissioner Vidyamari Sridhar, Superintendent of Police Namsadai Peter, and other district officials.
As part of the visit, he inspected the Longmai Primary Health Centre, where Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY) health cards were distributed to selected beneficiaries. He also handed over house keys to beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) in the Rangkhung region.
The minister visited several major infrastructure sites in the district, including the railway bridge pier (Bridge No. 164), considered one of the tallest railway bridge piers in the region. He also reviewed progress on the NH-37 highway project being executed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and inspected construction works at Awangkhul railway station.
Later, he chaired a review meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office with district-level officers and representatives from various departments, including railways and NHIDCL. Officials presented updates on the implementation of central sector schemes, highlighted achievements, and raised key challenges affecting development in the district.
The minister also visited departmental exhibition stalls and planted a tree at the DC office complex, marking his first official visit to Noney district.
