Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar held a review meeting at the Old Secretariat in Imphal on Monday immediately after arriving in the state, assessing the implementation of Central schemes and the status of funds released for the relief and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
He examined progress across key sectors including health, education, connectivity, power, rural development, tourism, agriculture and food processing, handloom and handicrafts. State officials also presented time-bound plans to strengthen service delivery and infrastructure.
The Minister also reviewed projects executed under the 10 percent Gross Budgetary Support (GBS) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, along with the status of the National Oil Palm Mission. Officials briefed him on ground realities, opportunities and challenges.
A sharp decline in tourist arrivals — from over 1.79 lakh in 2019-20 to around 17,000 in 2024-25 — was highlighted, attributed to the ongoing unrest and high airfares. Officials sought intervention with the Ministry of Civil Aviation to address the price issue.
Kumar assured full cooperation from the Centre to support the state’s development programmes and expedite key initiatives.
Later in the evening, he met Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan.
