Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla called for peace, unity, and mutual respect among the people of the state while speaking at the National Unity Day (Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) observance held at the 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal on Friday.
The Governor inspected the parade and took the salute as 13 contingents, including the Army, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, Manipur Rifles, various IRB units, Manipur Police, and NCC groups, marched past. The parade was led by Pramesh Arambam, Commandant of the 4th Indian Reserve Battalion. The Governor also administered the National Unity Day pledge to the gathering.
In his speech, he highlighted the role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in uniting over 500 princely states to form modern India. He said Patel’s vision and leadership continue to inspire the nation to stay strong, united, and committed to national integrity.
The Governor added that Manipur’s diverse cultures, traditions, and communities are its greatest strength. He encouraged people across hills and valleys to respect each other and work together for a peaceful and prosperous future. He also mentioned initiatives like livelihood and skill development programmes that are helping communities grow and progress together.
A cultural performance titled “Akhoigi Apunba Saktam” (Our Collective Identity) by students of Government Dance College showcased Manipur’s unity in diversity and marked the end of the programme.
