The United National Liberation Front (UNLF) effectively concluded its 10th General Assembly, held from the 28th to the 30th of July. The General Assembly observed two minutes of silence in reverence to all the fallen heroes who laid down their lives in the course of the sovereign movement that began in 1964, according to a press statement.
The General Assembly also discussed various policies and programs to further strengthen the outfit and appointed the members of the 10th Central Committee, dissolving the 9th Central Committee as per the bylaws, according to the statement from the outfit’s Department of Publicity and Education.
The Assembly unanimously resolved to appoint Khundongbam Pambei as the Chairman of the outfit and also appointed 11 other Central Committee members. Central Committee Member Lt. Col. Khuraijam Khoimu will be the Chief of the Army Staff of the Manipur People’s Army, the armed wing of the UNLF.
The General Assembly also discussed the ongoing ceasefire agreement and the subsequent peace talks with the Government of India to resolve the Manipur-India conflict. The objective to restore Manipur sovereignty will remain unchanged, according to the statement.
