On the solemn occasion of the 8th Martyrs’ Day, the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), led by its Chairman Khungdongbam Pambei, commemorated the sacrifices made by 380 martyrs with tribute and revolutionary salutation, who laid down their lives for the people’s sovereignty movement of Manipur.
According to a statement issued to the press by its Director of Dept. of Publicity & Education (DOP & E), Charairongba Thokchom, the UNLF expresses its deep respect and gratitude to all the officers, NCOs, privates, volunteers, and supporters who have dedicated their lives to the cause of the motherland.
The UNLF, formed in 1964 to reclaim Manipur’s sovereignty from Indian annexation, reiterated its commitment to the “Leipak Meeyam gi Ningtam Laan” (the People’s Sovereignty Movement), emphasizing that the struggle for independence would continue unwaveringly.
During the commemoration, the UNLF highlighted the significance of the martyrs’ supreme sacrifices in the context of the historical annexation of Manipur by India in 1949. The party reaffirmed and resolved to carry forward the struggle, paying homage to the fallen heroes who fought for Manipur’s sovereignty and reclaimed the dignity.
The UNLF, according to its statement, said this day serves as a reminder of the ongoing resistance against what they term as India’s colonial rule, expressing that the sacrifices made by the martyrs are an inspiration for the continued fight to achieve complete independence.
The event was widely held at all the brigades of its armed wing MPA, and all battalions, and the event was also attended and headed by its acting chairman at Central Headquarter (CHQ) along with leaders of Central Committee Members, party members, and members from MPA.
Floral tributes were also paid by the families and kin of all the fallen heroes at an event held at Nongpok Senjengba.
