Upendro Thongam Reaches Final at World Junior Wushu Championship 2026

Imphal, March 29: Wushu player Upendro Thongam from Manipur has advanced to the final of the 10th World Junior Wushu Championship 2026, currently being held at the Tianjin Olympic Centre Gymnasium in Tianjin. The championship is organised by the International Wushu Federation.

Representing India, Upendro Thongam is competing in the Sanda (45 kg) category. He secured his place in the final after defeating Emir Nurutdinov of Ukraine in the quarterfinals and Grisha Alikhanyan of Armenia in the semifinals.

Upendro, a resident of Thoubal Wangma Mathak Leikai, is the son of Thongam Premkumar (also known as Ranjan) and Thongam Nanao Leima.

He will face Abdullokh Rakhmanov of Uzbekistan in the final match scheduled for tomorrow. A victory in the final will earn India a gold medal at the championship, while even a loss will guarantee him a silver medal.

At present, Upendro Thongam is training as a wushu athlete at Army Boys, Shillong.
