Uripok Bans ‘Lagao’, Restricts Night Cafes in Solidarity with Relief Camp Families

In a restraining move amid Manipur’s prolonged unrest, the Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup have jointly announced a ban on Lagao (gambling) and restricted the operation of coffee shops, restaurants, and fast-food stalls in the Uripok area beyond 10 PM.

The joint bodies, in a statement to the media, said the decision was taken considering the prevailing hardship and emotional strain of families still residing in relief camps more than two years after violence displaced them.

The organizations expressed that while festivities like Diwali and Ningol Chakouba are occasions of joy, the community must celebrate with sensitivity and compassion towards those still enduring suffering.

General Secretary of Uripok Apunba Lup, Samom Dhurba, further urged the public to uphold community harmony and maintain peace during the festive season.
