The All Manipur VDF Employees Welfare Association announced on Thursday that it has decided to temporarily suspend its proposed indefinite “Gun Down” and “Pen Down” strike, which was scheduled to begin today.
In a press statement issued by the Association’s Publicity Secretary, Kh. Nanda, it was stated that the decision followed a meeting held with senior police officials to address long-standing grievances of VDF personnel. The meeting was chaired by Inspector General of Police (Zone-I) Themthing Ngashangva and attended by DIG (Headquarters) S. Gautam, other DIGs, and Superintendents of Police from Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, and Thoubal districts. Representatives of the VDF were also present.
As per the release, authorities agreed to constitute a dedicated committee by August 10 to examine service-related concerns raised by VDF personnel. The Association also informed that a detailed representation of its demands will be submitted to the Governor through the Director General of Police, Manipur.
The statement reiterated the Association’s call for revision of the VDF pay structure, urging the government to ensure minimum wage parity with skilled labour in recognition of the duties and dignity of VDF personnel.
