Imphal: Jan 25 : A programme on vegetable seed distribution, with a special focus on the Yard Long Bean variety Arka Mangala and its scientific cultivation practices, was held on Saturday at KVK-Bishnupur, Manipur.
The event, in collaboration with ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru under the NEH Component Programme, aimed to promote high-income generation for farmers through the dissemination of IIHR technologies.
The programme was led by Dr. P. Bijaya Devi, SMS-Horticulture, who shared that a total of 100 kg of Arka Mangala seed was distributed as recognition of the success of the previous OFT programme, “Performance of Yard Long Bean variety Arka Mangala.”
Dr. Bijaya Devi also provided a detailed lecture on the scientific cultivation practices of the variety to ensure higher returns during the technical season.
As many as 60 farmers attended the programme, where Dr. A. Tarajit Singh, SMS-Agril. Extension, emphasized the importance of expanding the area for technology demonstration to maximize farmer profits in Bishnupur.
P. Bidyananda Singh, SMS-Soil Science, highlighted the critical role of soil testing in promoting sustainable agriculture practices. The programme also saw the participation of Farm Manager M. Mahesh Singh.
The initiative is expected to significantly contribute to the agricultural welfare of farmers in Bishnupur district, providing them with valuable tools for higher crop productivity and income generation.
