The observance of Vijay Diwas was held today at the auditorium of the Manipur State Film Development Society, commemorating India’s victory in the 1971 war and honouring the sacrifice of its Armed Forces. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel were present at the programme.
In his address, the Governor said Vijay Diwas stands as a solemn occasion to remember the courage that shaped a defining moment in the nation’s history. He paid homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives in defence of the country and reaffirmed their contribution to safeguarding India’s unity and integrity.
Highlighting contemporary security developments, he referred to the success of Operation SINDOOR, stating that India’s emphasis on defence modernization and indigenous capability has strengthened national preparedness. He added that these advancements demonstrate the nation’s firm resolve and zero-tolerance policy against terrorism.
The Governor also drew attention to the bravery of personnel from Manipur who have earned national recognition—Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik of the Indian Air Force, awarded the Vir Chakra during Operation SINDOOR; BSF Constable Deepak Chingakham, who received the Vir Chakra posthumously; and CRPF Inspector Jeffrey Hmingchullo Hmar, a Shaurya Chakra awardee.
Calling on citizens to uphold democratic values, the Governor urged collective commitment towards peace, unity, and national integrity. The event was attended by senior civil, police and military officers, veterans, students, and members of the public.
