Feb. 5, 2025: With disappointment and fury, women IDPs have demanded clarification from Lok Sabha MP Bimol Akoijam over his remark in parliament, alleging that his comment has intentionally tarnished the image of village volunteers in the eyes of the masses.
The women, all IDPs currently taking shelter at a relief camp in Leimaram High School, gathered in large numbers outside MP Bimol’s residence in Keisamthong, Imphal, at around 4:30 this evening, protesting his statement.
“Whether BJP or Congress, don’t turn the village defense volunteers into sacrificial lambs,” said one of the protesting women IDPs, who demanded clarification from the MP and requested a meeting with IDPs after his return from Delhi.
The protesting women IDPs also urged BJP MLAs to make maximum efforts and reassure the safe return of the displaced persons to their homes.
