Villagers Protest Against Bitumen Mixing Plant and Illegal Industries in Moidangpok

March 26, 2025: Residents of Moidangpok, New Keithelmanbi, and Moidangpok Khunou staged a protest today against the establishment of a bitumen mixing plant at Moidangpok Khunou and other illegally operating stone crushers and brick fields in the area.

The villagers had previously voiced their opposition through press releases on January 17 and January 19, 2025. Despite their concerns, construction of the bitumen mixing plant by Yess Infra Pvt. Ltd. is underway in Moidangpok’s paddy fields, violating The Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland (MCPLW) Act, 2014.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) Against Polluting Factories/Industries has consistently opposed such industries, emphasizing their stance during a press conference on April 9, 2021, at the Manipur Press Club. The JAC has also filed PIL No. 58 of 2021 in the High Court of Manipur, demanding the closure of all illegal factories in the area.

Villagers have warned that any company or individual disregarding their concerns will face strong resistance. They have also urged the government to monitor and take strict action against these industries, which pose serious health risks to the local population.
