Massive protests demanding the restoration of Nepal’s monarchy turned violent, resulting in the deaths of two people and injuries to at least 30 others. In response to escalating tensions, the government deployed the army and imposed a curfew in several areas of Kathmandu, including Tinkune, Sinamangal, and Koteshwor.
The demonstrations, led by the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and other pro-monarchy groups, saw protesters pelting stones, attacking a political party office, setting vehicles on fire, and looting shops. Security forces used tear gas and water cannons to control the unrest as demonstrators attempted to break through barricades.
The situation in Kathmandu remains tense, with authorities closely monitoring developments. This protest is part of a larger movement calling for the revival of Nepal’s monarchy, which was abolished in 2008, transforming the country into a republic. The government has yet to release an official statement on the matter.
