Kakching, September 10, 2026 (Kakching): The Students Union of Wabagai Higher Secondary School has warned of a class boycott and a series of agitations if the prolonged shortage of the school’s Principal and teachers in various subjects is not addressed by September 15.
The warning was issued during a press meet held at the main gate of Wabagai Higher Secondary School, where the Students Union demanded the immediate appointment of a regular Principal and teachers for the vacant subject posts.
During the interaction, students expressed concern that academic activities are being severely affected due to the absence of teachers.
Finance Secretary of the School Students Union, Rani Moijing, said that the school, which has around 300 students, was upgraded to a Higher Secondary School in 2021. However, the shortage of teachers has continued ever since, with several posts remaining vacant.
Although teachers for some subjects were appointed recently, the posts of teachers for Geography, Physics, Anthropology and Economics reportedly remain vacant.
The students further stated that the posts of Principal and Vice-Principal have also remained vacant since April this year, further affecting the functioning of the institution.
The students claimed that repeated appeals have been made to the concerned authorities regarding the shortage of teachers and administrative heads.
A memorandum was also submitted to Chief Minister Y. Khemchand during his recent visit to the school, urging immediate action to address the problems faced by students and teachers.
Despite raising the issue through the media and submitting representations to the authorities, the demands have allegedly not been addressed so far.
The Students Union therefore warned that if the vacant posts of Principal, Vice-Principal and subject teachers are not filled by September 15, students will launch further democratic agitations, including a class boycott.
Meanwhile, Indigenous Youth Association of Kangleipak (IYAK), Kakching District President Y. Inaobi, extended support to the students’ demands.
He stated that the government should take immediate steps to address the difficulties faced by the students by appointing a regular Principal and the required teachers.
He further warned that if the issue is not resolved, the organisation would stand with the students and extend support to further democratic agitations in the interest of the students.
IYAK also urged officials of the Education Department and Chief Minister Y. Khemchand, who is also in charge of the Education portfolio, to take necessary action and fulfil the students’ demands before September 15.
