In a mismatch between official records and ground reality, residents of Wakha village under Kshetrigao Assembly Constituency have alleged that the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)’s official website falsely shows the village as receiving functional tap water.
According to the website, 69 of Wakha’s 229 households are marked as “tap-water connected,” and the total household count is curiously listed as 81, contradicting residents’ statements and village documents.
Locals said this digital claim is “a manufactured picture,” insisting that no household has received JJM water and that the village has depended on its own sources for decades without interruption but without any government supply.
Wakha Youth Club President Mayanglambam Vishma said the listing appears to be a “deliberate misrepresentation,” pointing out that even the names of three non-existent or unidentified beneficiaries appear on the household list uploaded on the JJM portal.
Residents added that no pipeline installation, no water testing, and no groundwork have ever been taken up under the scheme.
Locals demanded an immediate verification of JJM records, questioning how the village could be listed as “covered” when no tap, no line, and no drop of government water has reached Wakha.
With the deadline of November 5 approaching for the department to act, villagers urged authorities to investigate what they described as a “possible scam” involving inflated or fabricated coverage data on the national mission platform.
