WALK OF DEDICATION: MANIPUR’S ASHA WORKER TREKS 8 HOURS IN HILLY TERRAIN TO ENSURE POLIO VACCINE

Oct 16, 2025: In what could be described as the most significant and inspiring walk of the year, a 51-year-old ASHA worker from Manipur’s Tamenglong district trekked 8 hours on foot, reaching the remotest hilly terrain to ensure Oral Polio Vaccines (OPV) for children.

The 51-year-old Meidinliu, an ASHA worker from the Atangkhullen (Nenluang) Liangmai area of Tamenglong district, reaches the most isolated and remote Atangkhunou and Atangkhullen areas on foot to ensure no children aged 0–5 years are left out of the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) Programme carried out widely in the state.

Saluting her efforts, Manipur Raj Bhawan posted on the social media platform X, “A salute to her dedication and spirit of service!” and shared her inspiring story, noting that she has been in tireless service for 13 years.

For a polio-free Manipur, the state health authority deployed 3,167 booths, supported by 633 supervisors and 15,833 vaccine administrators across Manipur, targeting 3.16 lakh children. The Polio Sub-National Immunization Day 2025 was launched on Sunday in Imphal, administering oral polio vaccines to children aged 0–5 years.
