March 4, 2025: In support of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s directives for free movement on all roads (including national highways) in Manipur from the 8th of March, the Federation of Civil Society Organizations (FOCS) is set to begin a peace tour to carry the message of amity, focusing on reaching beyond the artificially and unofficially curved buffer zone areas of Manipur.
The CSO-based Peace Initiatives Rally was announced to the media on Tuesday. The FOCS President, Th. Manihar, informed that the tour was planned to reach out to various hill districts of Manipur for peace and will hold joint prayers with the inhabitants while assessing the security initiatives taken for public safety as per the directives of the Union Home Minister.
The FOCS President also asked those challenging the Union Home Minister’s directives to retreat their demands for separate administration (in the form of a union territory with a legislature). Mention may be made here that the Union Home Minister has clearly informed that stringent action is to be taken against any individuals who obstruct free-movement efforts by the government.
