Wangoo Laipham PHC resumes 24-hour services after protest suspension

Following a brief lockdown by the public on January 15th in protest against the transfer of a doctor, the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Wangoo Laipham in Kakching District has resumed its normal 24-hour operations from Saturday.

The decision came after the intervention of the Health and Family Welfare Department, which swiftly assigned two doctors to the PHC.

The protest suspension was initiated following an order issued by the Health and Family Welfare Department, which responded to public concerns by ensuring the PHC could operate effectively.

Executive member of the Hospital Management Committee, Th. Dhamen, emphasised the necessity for the government to ensure timely replacement of medical staff in future transfers to prevent disruptions in healthcare services.

During the protest, patients faced inconvenience due to the temporary closure of services.
Expressing regret over this impact, Dhamen called upon the government to promptly dispatch supervisors and staff nurses to address any staffing shortages and facilitate essential healthcare programs, including routine immunisations.
