Where has the rice gone? The answer has been sought now. The CAF and PD Director K. Bono Singh has dashed off an official “urgent and important” letter urging the Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur District for an enquiry and a factual report at the earliest on the allegation that PDS rice lifted was distributed only on papers.
The allegation was raised by State BJP Spokesperson Micheal Lamjathang Thadou that the entitled free rice for citizens of the district, including the additional conflict-relief rice, was perfectly distributed on paper without actually delivering it to the beneficiaries.
Demanding an impartial enquiry, the allegation cited that the PDS agents, appointed through nomination by elected representatives, maintain perfect paperwork but fail to deliver grains to beneficiaries. The gap has continued since the 2023 ethnic conflict and persists even under President’s Rule, causing severe hardship and erosion of public trust.
Taking note of the complaint, the CAF and PD Director also urged Churachandpur DC for verification of this discrepancy—between recorded lifting and ground-level distribution—which will be essential for clarifying the situation, and requested to kindly look into the matter and submit a factual report at the earliest for onward submission to higher authorities.
