Heavy to moderate rainfall drenched large swathes of Manipur over the past 24 hours, with 74% of the state’s weather stations reporting precipitation, according to the IMD Met Centre, Imphal.
Out of 27 stations, 20 recorded rainfall, qualifying the spell as “Fairly Widespread.” Key locations including Imphal Airport (51.9 mm), Moirang (47.5 mm), Sainik School (58.0 mm), and Lamsang (58.5 mm) saw consistent showers. Lilong in Thoubal district topped the chart with 87.5 mm, falling into the “Heavy Rain” bracket (64.5 to 115.5 mm/day).
The Water Resources Department’s Daily Flood Report flagged mild cumulative rainfall in flood-prone areas such as Lamphel, Raj Bhawan, and Kangpokpi, though river levels remain below the danger mark. Most floodgates are either closed or minimally opened.
However, the persistent rain has triggered frequent power outages across both urban and rural pockets, compounding public discomfort. Authorities are also keeping a close watch on low-lying areas with flash flood warnings issued for vulnerable zones.
The IMD has predicted continued rain activity, particularly over the valley and eastern hill districts, urging residents to remain cautious. People are advised to monitor real-time updates via the MAUSAM, Meghdoot, and Damini mobile apps for weather and lightning alerts.
