Feb. 08, 2025: Amid preparations to file a No Confidence Motion in the Manipur Assembly, scheduled to commence on February 10, 2025, Chief Minister N. Biren convened a meeting today with ruling BJP legislators at his bungalow in Imphal.
Manipur Congress President K. Meghachandra announced on his Facebook yesterday that the opposition Congress, comprising five MLAs, is poised to move the No Confidence Motion.
He wrote, “The Brahmastra Missile will surely hit one of the Double Engines! Congress Party is ready to table the No Confidence Motion anytime soon.”
The meeting at the CM’s bungalow was attended by around 21 BJP MLAs, including independent candidates. However, notable absentees included BJP MLAs reported to be rebelling for leadership change, namely Speaker Th. Satyabarta, Minister Y. Khemchand, MLA Radheshyam, and others.
In addition to the No Confidence Motion, the fate of nine MLAs elected from JDU and NPP who joined BJP hangs in the balance, pending judgment by the Speaker’s Tribunal on disqualification cases.
As political uncertainty looms, all eyes are now on the Manipur Assembly session and the Speaker’s Tribunal, where the future of the state’s leadership will be determined.
