Women Back Shutdown in Kshetrigao; Road Blockades, Solidarity Protests Continue

Imphal, Apr 19: Protests continued in parts of the Valley, with women in Kshetrigao coming out in large numbers to support the five-day total shutdown called by Meira Paibis.

Women volunteers staged road blockades at multiple locations in Kshetrigao, stopping vehicular movement and asking commuters to either take alternative routes or return.

The actions were part of ongoing protests expressing solidarity with victims of the Tronglaobi incident and subsequent violence.

Demonstrations were held in memory of the two children killed in Tronglaobi, as well as three others who lost their lives during a protest near a CRPF camp in the aftermath.

Participants said they would continue supporting the shutdown until their demands are met. “We will continue the protest,” women volunteers in Kshetrigao asserted.

Meanwhile, women volunteers in Thambalkhong also staged protests, expressing strong displeasure over what they termed the Government’s handling of the situation.

The developments come amid continued unrest across the Valley, even as the State Government has appealed for withdrawal of the shutdown and restoration of normalcy.
