Women Empowerment Drive: Plastic Bag-Making Training Held at Heirok

A skill-based training programme on plastic bag manufacturing was launched today at the Community Hall of Heirok Part III, Tourangbam Leikai, under the Entrepreneurship Development Programme, aiming to promote self-reliance among women.

The initiative, organised as part of the second phase of the programme, brought together local women to equip them with practical skills for income generation. Speaking at the inaugural session, cadre member Elangbam Sangita of Apunbagi Thouna Village Level Federation (VLF) stated that the training is being jointly conducted by Ningol Club, Apunbagi Thouna VLF, and Palem Panthou VLF, with the objective of economically empowering women in the area.

She highlighted that such programmes are designed to help women develop sustainable livelihood options and achieve financial independence by utilising locally viable skills. She further noted that similar initiatives have already benefitted over 40 women in the region, enabling them to engage in income-generating activities.

The programme also focused on encouraging members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), particularly those who may not yet have stable income sources, to actively participate and strengthen their economic standing through collective efforts.

The inaugural function was attended by Thokchom Premabati, President of Apunbagi Thouna VLF; Moirangthem Robina, cadre of Palem Panthou VLF; and Elangbam Sangita, who graced the occasion as presidium members.
